University Guidance

The History Department at BMS recognises that those students who wish to read History or a History related subject at University should be supported and challenged in order to help them perform at the highest levels in apitutde tests and at interviews.

Students will be given specific advice on which institution might offer the most suitable course for them, including Oxford and Cambridge. Staff within the Department have a range of expertise which students can utilise in relation to this. Thus, as well as being able to offer advice on History courses, the Department can also help individual students select and prepare for interviews in Law, War Studies, International Relations, Archaeology and Anthropology, and Anglo-Saxon, Norse and Celtic.

Students are also able to contact previous Sixth Formers who are currently studying History at University in order to gain their feedback on the course offered, and on occasion old BMS students will meet up with potential students during Open Days. As well as offering individual advice, the Department runs extension classes during the Autumn Term of Year 13, in order to help students who wish to study History at University deal effectively with unseen texts. The Department also offers support by reviewing the personal statement on students' UCAS forms.
